Companion animals

Many of us treat animals such as dogs and cats as much-loved members of the family, but not all animals are this fortunate.  Sometimes they are bought impulsively without adequate thought being given, as to how they are going to be cared for.  As a result, they are often neglected, or abandoned once the novelty has worn off.  Thousands of unwanted and abandoned animals are in rescue centres awaiting a new home.  Many are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them all.  Countless puppies are born every day.  Purchasing animals from breeders keeps the cycle going.  If you have the time, money and energy, adopt an animal from a shelter.

Spay and Neuter: millions of births and deaths of homeless animals could be decreased and even prevented all-together by doing this.  It is estimated that it costs UK taxpayers 75 million approximately annually, to respond to the dog overpopulation crisis.  It is a myth that a female animal ‘needs’ to have at least one litter, and should only be spayed after that.  Onekind at www.onekind.org is campaigning for new laws to protect pets.
